PGR4 event ? Atoms ? .. so close yet so far.

Ariel atomOh the humanity of it all! On my way to work this morning I was stopped in my tracks by two Ariel Atoms parked outfront of an events place just round the corner. Instant parallel thought trains rocked through my mind, how the hell are they road legal in Canada ? and how the hell do I get myself in the passenger seat ?. Then a 360 Modena rocks up, along with a Porker. What’s going on ? Finally I look out of my Atom induced haze to see the XBox 360 signage everywhere. Aha. Makes sense…Project Gotham Racing 4.

Righto so I rock back to the office. Get dressed so I look more professional than bike courier, rock back and start talking to various people. 5 mins later I’d managed to wangle a potential ride later in the day after telling my true tale of woe that I left New Zealand when an Atom track day was going down and missed out on the drive of my life. The clock strikes 4 (after hearing the Ferrari opening it up many times during the afternoon… Torture! Torture I tell you…). I jump up, grab camera, rock round the corner. “Oh No”

The Police. (with a heavy weighting on the period there)

Who would’ve thought that would’ve happened? No cars were going anywhere. Period. However the silver lining is at least I’m on the list for a track day for next summer, which gives me a good 10 months to work out how to justify the money for it to my S.O.

Bebe and I came back from the beach and stopped in Carmel, CA. As we searched for parking I marvelled at how many Ferraris there were. It’s a quaint little town and the commecial area is laid out so that the streets are about 100m apart. EVERY block had at least one Ferrari parked on it. Old school ones looking elegant, brand new ones looking slick, eighties ones looking a little try-hard. Beautiful.
But that’s not all. There were at least as many Porsches of all ages including a fresh-from-the-factory supercar beast so exotic I’m too out of the loop to have identified it. A lovely old-school silver Porsche Spyder really struck my fancy.
And Lamborghinis - a Murcielago, a Daiblo and a Gaillardo.
On the street, just parked there.
But wait - is that an Aston Martin Vanquish at the intersection? Why yes it is.
And - no, it can’t be - oh my god it actually is followed by a Bugatti Veyron. Never thought I’d see one running.
Everything else was a BMW or a Corvette, both of which seemed almost embarassing in the company of the others.
We were in a Honda CRV. And PROUD OF IT.
    Sort of.
Turns out the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance was in town, so this isn’t everyday Carmel. I felt special just walking around all that beautiful design.
    Where’s the track day held?

Yeah dude, It seems I haven’t quite expunged the lust for beautiful engineering….. Speaking of Veyron I came across a picture of a crashed one (albeit minor) in UK I’ll send ya.

The track day, at least this years ones, were in Shannonville, not sure if it’s the same next year.
