About Me

My homeland, is Aoteoroa, New Zealand. The land of the long white cloud. I speak in a kiwi accent, however I live in a city covered in red bricks, street car tracks and an urban landscape. I'm surrounded by Canucks and properly call the place I live 'Tronno'. For my job, and my passion - I live and breath web development and technologies. I get overtly excited about having a webserver pull content from database servers and render it as fast as humanly possible. When I've calmed down from that, and want to balance things out - I get on my bike and ride, at breakneck speeds in the woods, down a mountain side, or in a pack of other cyclists raising money for kids cancer. When off the bike, I pull out my camera and take photos. In the downtime I'm either fixated behind Aperture tweaking said photos, often in conjunction with listening to some stream of bits passing through a D/A converter to a pair of rather nice headphones that tend to get Audiophile's all excited.

The Skinny..

work: Senior Director, Enterprise Development (North America) at Mosaic Sales Solutions

doing IT/Development for: 15 years

currently reside: Toronto, Canada

favourite technologies: typically anything open source. Have a slight bent towards Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL.

fascination with: delivering software. currently have one of the bigger Rails development teams in Toronto and pretty damn proud of them.

hack on: my iMac at home, or MacBookPro at work. Sublime 2 editor of choice.

can_code? and can_deploy?: yes. case in point - you're looking at a massively overengineered blog. it's running 2 app servers, Rails 3 blogging platform built by me, using a MongoDB replica set, loadbalanced on the front end, images distributed via a CDN. Put together in spare evenings over a couple of weeks.

notables: Some words I wrote in an email made it into the Facebook Cookbook. Way back when, was nominated for New Zealand's High Tech Young Achiever of the year.
